Afternoon Tea designed by Matthew Williamson

When I learned that British designer Matthew Williamson designed a stylish afternoon tea exclusively for London's Balthazar, Eva and I immediately made a booking.

It was a beautiful day with blue skies, blooming trees and a smell of spring in the air.

We were ready to tuck into a sea of food! (wink wink)
You have an option for Cream tea, Afternoon tea or Afternoon tea with their classic 'Rainbows' cocktail which reflects the glamour of Marie Helvin in David Bailey's book 'Chasing Rainbows'. Strong and gorgeous.
The selection of sandwiches was great, from the usual Cucumber, Egg Mayonnaise, to Smoked Salmon, Crab and Chicken.
Next were the delicious scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Wonderfully soft, freshly baked and really just beautiful.
The cakes were small pieces of art, inspired by his 2015 Spring/Summer collection. Strawberry trifle, super sweet! Pistachio macaroon, Black forest, Pecan praline and my favorite of them all the Vanilla cheesecake with raspberry jelly and white chocolate. Very light and extremely tasty.
I need to be *very* honest and admit the service was appalling, no one paid attention to us while we waited 20 minutes for our table at the bar, the staff was terribly slow and inattentive. Lovely Afternoon tea and cocktails hugely let down by very disappointing customer service. My second visit and not much better than the first one. I would give 5 stars for ambiance, 4 for food and 1 for service.

I hope you have a better experience during your visit. With London Fashion Week in full swing, stop by for a much-needed break and recharge in style.

Available from 3-5pm daily, make your reservation here
